Experimental Fellowship at Bauhaus Earth

The Open Call 2025 for the Experimental Fellowship at Bauhaus Earth is now open. The Fellowship supports practice-based, research-oriented experimental projects across diverse geographies and scales. The program is designed to expand existing knowledge and expertise with the aim of making a positive contribution towards a more sustainable, circular and climate-conscious architecture through regenerative material practices.

The Experimental Fellowship at Bauhaus Earth invites a broad spectrum of exceptionally talented emerging international practitioners, including architects, artists, designers, engineers, scientists as well as cross-disciplinary teams, whose proposals test new modes of practice, engagement, and knowledge. The program provides a platform for the promotion and implementation of systemic-analytical and practical building experiments.

Fellowship projects are based on clear research questions and typically aim to produce architectural fragments of a manageable scale that can serve as 1:1 experimental prototypes. They should aim for longevity and be integrated into a real context, bridging research to building practice and industry.

The Fellowship is an active collaboration and co-design with the Experimental and Bauhaus Earth team, integrating a robust network of project-specific industry partners and research experts. Providing critical support, the program offers a practical cross-disciplinary research environment, substantial financial support, intellectual and professional mentoring, and the comprehensive network and conditions to pursue new sustainable work or practice through a focused process.

Experimental is a non-profit organization founded by architect Prof. Regine Leibinger. Since 2022, the foundation has promoted new sustainable architecture projects and practices contributing to the Bauwende. Based in Berlin and active both online and on-site, its workspace complements Bauhaus Earth’s global Think-and-Make-Tank and its hands-on Workshop at Campus Atelier Gardens, south of Berlin.

In 2022 the Experimental Fellowship Program assigned its first Fellowship to the London-based Material Cultures, followed by the German collective Baukreisel e.V.. The most current Fellows include Maria Lisogorskaya and Kaye Song from Assemble, London, and Lviv-based architects Anna Pomazanna and Mykhailo Shevchenko.

Fellowship projects are designed to span 6 to 9 months and are intended as open-ended practice implementation. The program includes financial support to cover a monthly stipend, project-related expenses and production costs. The jury is scheduled in June. Successful candidates will be notified by July and the Fellowship will run until March 2026.
