Roma New Media Art Week. Edition O

From July 6 until July 12, Rome opens the first edition of New Media Week, entirely dedicated to digital art, connecting international creators with local communities through a free, decentralized program of shared resources. It is conceived as a free, public program built through direct co-production with local spaces and international new media practitioners. Deliberately fluid rather than theme-driven, Edition 0 treats classical sculpture, architecture and urban space as raw creative material, exploring how new media can reactivate the past rather than replace it.

The program runs as a set of independent, site-specific collaborations, day by day:

Monday 6 July: Points of View. Casa Museo Hendrik Christian Andersen (Flaminio), opening 6 July at 16:30, on view daily through 12 July. Curated by Luca Martinelli in collaboration with Fotonica. A TouchDesigner installation by Torin Blankensmith (with Dotsimulate) in the museum’s Sala dei Gessi: interactive screens multiply the angles from which Andersen’s plaster casts can be read.

Synthetic Histories. Casa Museo Hendrik Christian Andersen (Flaminio), opening 6 July at 16:30, on view daily through 12 July. Curated by Chiara Canali, with Giuliana Cunéaz, Chiara Passa, Alex Estorick and Ana Maria Caballero, and Auriea Harvey. New media works on custom bases with embedded screens, in dialogue with the museum’s permanent bronze collection. Media partner: Right Click Save.

Patrons After Hours. Satyrus, Scalea Bruno Zevi (Valle Giulia), 6 July from 19:30. An open-air evening of digital art on Satyrus’s LED wall, facing the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna: eleven international artists in rotation across two curatorial hands. Curated by DOMVS (deltasauce @delta.sauce, Andrea Ciulu @andreaciulu, pho @photontide, 0009 @0009.eth, dolce paganne @dolcepaganne) and by the Wait & Hope Foundation (loyola @0xloyola, Utku Dedetas @utkudedetas, Yuser Xyz @yuser.xyz, Ev3 / Scott Harlan @ev3_art, Celestial Body @celstialbody, Arseniy Valter @post_it_screw_it). Tuesday 7 July: The Alphabet. Porte Rosse, Via dei Sabelli (San Lorenzo), opening 7 July at 18:00, on view daily through 12 July. A solo exhibition by Pauline Faieff, curated by Annelise Stern: twenty-six letters drawn from the body and minted on Bitcoin Ordinals, an alphabet of skin, light and curvature.

The Human Interface. La Galleria delle Arti, Via dei Sabelli (San Lorenzo), opening 7 July at 19:00, on view daily through 12 July. A group exhibition curated by Anika Meier for The Second-Guess (powered by Tezos Foundation and objkt): five international women artists, Tamiko Thiel, Franziska Ostermann, Marine Bléhaut, Elisabeth Sweet and Leah Schrager, working across the body, identity and technology in AR, AI and the screen.

Liv’s Psychic Hotline. La Galleria delle Arti (San Lorenzo), 7 July from 19:00. A site-specific installation by Olivia Pedigo, presented with One Love Art DAO: 3D video, mirrored 3D-printed sculptures and projection mapping staged as an oracle’s chamber.

Wednesday 8 July: Co-Stories Night, Think Outside the Museum. Palazzo San Lorenzo, Piazza dei Sanniti (San Lorenzo), 8 July, doors 19:00. The first night-time edition of Plural Agency’s Co-Stories Live, conceived by Plural and Co-Stories Media and curated by Marco Diotallevi, in collaboration with Rome New Media Week. Three movements: an exclusive preview installation curated by Anika Meier (20:15); the panel Think Outside the Museum (21:30), moderated by Marco Diotallevi with co-host Luca Martinelli and speakers Andrea Granelli (Kanso), Manuel Musilli (Saatchi & Saatchi, Clanker Magazine), Chiara Canali (Parma360 Festival) and Marina Manfredi (Peroni), with interactive visuals by Dotsimulate; and a Realtime Immersive Show led by SARV VJ, with Angela D’Onghia and Simona Vacca presenting “signal / presence” and Torin Blankensmith closing. Sara Ex Favilla. BLA Studio, Piazza dei Ponziani (Trastevere), 9 July from 19:00. Curated by Luca Martinelli: a new webcam-reactive commission on BLA Studio’s vetrina, paired with an interior installation.

Friday 10 July: REAL-TIME. Liminal State (LMNL), Via Giuseppe Libetta (Ostiense), 10 July, 10:00 to 19:30. A full-day TouchDesigner workshop and open call, curated and produced by Rome New Media Week, directed by Luca Martinelli, in collaboration with LMNL within AGORÀ Pro / Videocittà 2026; mentors include Lake Heckaman, Torin Blankensmith, Dotsimulate and SARV, closing with a panel and live demos.

Maelstrom. Videocittà, Gazometro Ostiense, opening 10 July from 20:30, on view through 12 July. Rome New Media Week curates and presents Lake Heckaman’s large-scale, touch-reactive LED water work within Videocittà 2026 (Watercult).

All exhibitions remain open to the public through Sunday 12 July. The festival launched with a public preview on 3 June at BLA Studio in Trastevere. Edition 0 is held under the patronage of Roma Capitale (Assessorato alla Cultura).

“New media art doesn’t replace the past; it uses it, 3D scans, datasets, archives, industrial history, as raw material to expand what the past can say,” said Luca Martinelli, founder of Rome New Media Week. “We kept Edition 0 free and decentralized on purpose: we are building long-term infrastructure for the creator economy, not a one-off showcase. Rome has deep digital talent but has never had a real public home for it, so we bring the global creators who write the tutorials and build the tools into the city to work with local artists, and build the permanent nodes of a network that supports creation, education and collaboration here all year round.”
