For several years now in Rome, the VIDEOCITTÀ festival, conceived by Francesco Rutelli and directed by Francesco Dobrovich, has set itself up as an audiovisual observatory, including names in electronic music, talks on new media and immersive installations. Placing itself between culture and entertainment, for some years now this major event has been hosted in the evocative industrial archaeology space of the Gazometro in Rome.
Now, having closed the 2024 edition in September, which presented the work of over 500 artists, Videocittà has continued on 14 December with the Videocittà Awards, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome, hosted by journalist and art critic Nicolas Ballario and content creator Momoka Banana.
Federica Di Pietrantonio (category: video art), multimedia artist and physicist Riccardo Giovinetto (category: AV Performance), content creator Margherita Paiano (category: Creator), new media studios Onda Studio (category: Immersive Experience), and Machine Zero (category:Next). Margherita Landi received a special mention.
In a packed hall, the ceremony was accompanied by the audio-visual live performance ‘SHIRO’ by Nonotak, a duo founded in 2011 by visual artist Noemi Schipfer and sound and light artist Takami Nakamoto, a play of overlapping shadows, light and techno music through four semi-transparent screens and the artists’ bodies.
Inside the foyer of art, it was possible to experience ODE corporis, the first VR experience of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, conceived and curated by Anna Lea Antolini with Giuliano Danieli and directed by Guido Geminiani. Produced by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in collaboration with Videocittà, it is a journey through the body, in the known and less known, accessible and inaccessible spaces of the Teatro Costanzi and its scenographic workshop, i Cerchi. The evening ended with a DJ set by Efee.
The Videocittà Awards are organised by Videocittà, the festival conceived by Francesco Rutelli with the creative direction of Francesco Dobrovich, in co-production with EUR SpA as part of the EURCULTURE 2024/25 event, and thanks to sponsor partner Ploom.
This edition’s awards were presented by: Lorenza Lei, Head of Cinema Lazio Region, Silvia Scozzese, Deputy Mayor and Budget Councillor Roma Capitale, Dardust, pianist, composer and producer, Laura Negrini, Director IED Rome.
