{"id":31949,"date":"2014-06-19T08:40:30","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T06:40:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arshake.com\/art-and-technology-on-show-in-the-sixties\/"},"modified":"2018-05-05T13:41:26","modified_gmt":"2018-05-05T11:41:26","slug":"art-and-technology-on-show-in-the-sixties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arshake.com\/en\/art-and-technology-on-show-in-the-sixties\/","title":{"rendered":"Art and Technology on show in the Sixties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><i>Expressed in formula, the task of technomorphism\u00a0 is the duty of the visual arts, where the word is to be taken literally: giving form (three-dimensional \u2013 spatial) to the technological procedures used during its corresponding historical period <\/i><sup><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><a title=\"\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">[1]<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sentence issued by Barilli for the International Art Critique Convention held in Montecatini in May 1978 is necessary and incontrovertible in relation to what is now the definitive combination of art and technology, a position which was also reaffirmed the following year by Lyotard\u00a0<sup><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><a title=\"\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">[2]<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/sup> although it was hardly inaugural if we consider that between the dates of 3 July and 5 September 1965 \u00abLicht und Bewegung. Kinetische Kunst<i>\u00bb<\/i>\u00a0was being presented at the Bern Kunsthalle defined by Glicenstein as the first great exhibition dedicated to art and new technology. If this exposition is to be truly considered an essential moment in the affirmation of artistic practices oriented towards use and interpenetration with the constantly evolving universe of technology and as the materialization of the \u00abthree-dimensional \u2013 spatial form\u00bb of technological procedures, there was no location more befittimg in light of the presence of a director who had had more than ample experience with inaugural responsibilities and with undeniably brilliant results: Harald Szeemann.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arshake.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/31.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arshake.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/31-500x500.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to the visionary intelligence of the Swiss curator, the exhibit presented 175 works by 58 artists from 17 countries and was conceived to be divided by type throughout the various halls of the institution in Bern, a recurring method of exposition witnessed throughout Szeemann\u2019s career: \u00a0<i>machines<\/i> <i>that produced art<\/i>; <i>mobiles<\/i>; <i>optical motion<\/i>; <i>non-repetitive constellations<\/i>; <i>magnetic fields<\/i>; <i>light-producing devices and machines<\/i>; <i>sound-emitting structures<\/i>. \u00a0The convergence of a doubled viewpoint where on the one hand we have the precursors (Duchamp, Calder, Ray, Vasarely) while on the other we see works by the harbingers of Kinetic Art (Agam, Bury, Soto, Takis, Tinguely) in an exhibition which assumes the crucial role in the construction of Szeemann\u2019s ideology: \u00ab<i>And since 1995 installation had become very important, working with the space, the interrelation of themes and space\u00bb<\/i><sup><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><a title=\"\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">[3]<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In short, an exposition built on the basis o fan open dialogue between works and space, content and container \u2013 an event that met with great success: 13,587 registered admissions \u2013 one of the highest attendances at the Kunsthalle under the direction of Harald Szeemann.
