Giovanna Bianco and Pino Valente, renown as duo Bianco-Valente, have been professional and personal partners since the 1990s. They have dedicated their entire careers to research focusing upon the boundaries between mind and matter. Within a rather abundant production of site-specific works featured in museums, as well as in public spaces, much of their production is the result of «relational» projects. Their installations are composed with all types of tools and are both cause and effect of the creation of a network of relations that begins with a dialogic rapport built from one individual to another in a system of communication that is an alternative to the network. This new system materializes invisible maps from which their works leave traces similar to «maps of the mind». Art critic Pietro Gaglianò, who is currently curating their latest project in Florence, states:
Works by this artistic duo are always conceived as a summary of a questioning process that emanates from the authors in order to involve different participants, space, tools of representation and devices to identify and recognize their origin. Thanks to this commitment, all of their works, even those which are more formally completed, maintain the profile of stratification creating them and reveal the complexity of glances and action that are part of their composition. Whether these creations are maps, visual and verbal narratives or physical interventions on architecture and landscapes Bianco-Valente always take action by following a very specific line of development in terms of rewriting. They go beneath the skin of things, probing under the surface. (Pietro Gaglianò)
With this creative attitude duo Bianco-Valente undertakes their latest project in Florence, a journey into the image dimension, born of the interaction between place and languages, which this time involves students and local young artists.
