MAMbo – The Modern Art Museum of Bologna launches the initiative “2 minuti di MAMbo” (2 minutes of MAMbo): this is a digital engagement format consisting of new video content filmed using basic technology, the smartphone, inside the museum or remotely, with the hashtag #smartMAMbo.
Starting today, until Sunday 5 April, every day from Tuesday to Sunday as part of the museum’s regular opening hours, at 3pm a new contribution will be uploaded on the YouTube MAMbo Channel, then shared on the museum’s social platforms Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The video clips will focus, in continuous rotation, on four themes: the temporary exhibition AGAINandAGAINandAGAINand, which investigates loops, repetition and cycles in the contemporary world through the works of seven of the best-known contemporary artists (Ed Atkins, Luca Francesconi, Apostolos Georgiou, Ragnar Kjartansson, Susan Philipsz, Cally Spooner and Apichatpong Weerasethakul); the MAMbo permanent collection; the Morandi Museum; and the MAMbo Educational Department, organisations of excellence in the field of mediation and didactic art aimed at a diverse public that, on this occasion, will face a new challenge related to the way works are viewed.
In this way, a new story will come to life, divided into different events, each one entrusted to a different voice – curators, artists exhibited in the permanent collection and those on show in the temporary exhibition, cultural mediators and others – in which the web will be used as a space to present a couple of minutes of in-depth analysis, comments and interesting facts relating to a theme or a work or, in any case, on the exhibits temporarily unavailable in the museum itself. To enrich the knowledge of the works, further materials and documents will be published alongside the videos. In addition to publication on social media channels, the films will be arranged as weekly playlist anthologies and shared in the newsletter and on the museum website.
According to Lorenzo Balbi, head of the Modern and Contemporary Art Area | Istituzione Bologna Musei “this project, arising from the need to offer new ways and temporal opportunities to enjoy artworks, continues in the direction already experimented during the exhibition that marked the beginning of my artistic direction at MAMbo That’s IT! On the latest generation of artists in Italy and 1.80m from the border, where the museum’s Instagram profile was constantly updated with materials produced ad hoc by the artists – a virtual exhibition room integrated with the physical space”.
