DIGITALIZE, Romaeuropa Festival’s new format dedicated to digital art, curated by Federica Patti and representing the performativity of algorithms, is about to open. The opening is organised in collaboration with Spring Attitude, Andrea Esu’s Festival dedicated to the excellence of international electronic music.
Streaming, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, deep learning… technological acceleration continues to revolutionize concepts of timeand “live” (to be witnessed with one’s own eyes), allowing a high level of performativity to emerge. Performativity is a notion that now embraces the whole media process, the centre of which has become the largest spectrum of intimate, everyday and collective actions.
These are the core concepts that nurture Federica Patti’s DIGITALIVE, synthesising all the outcomes of the technological impact on man together with his social actions. Italian and international artists who have been invited to take part in the event are all extremely eclectic, engaging in research and naturally orientated towards expressing their ideas through hybrid languages. Alongside the synergy between image and sound, there is also a focus on space and a live stage. Artists, works and the public meet in physical space and then move on to technological hyper-spaces, all in real time. Art, science, media, music and visual arts exist on a common thread, finding the same expressive channel, and try to give shape to the post-human: the transformation of man that is already taking place; indefinite entities where organic and inorganic grow simultaneously driven by similarly hybrid intelligent forms. Performing and digital arts flow into DIGITALIVE and coexist in harmony with the ample scenic spectrum of theRomaeuropa Festival.
DIGITALIVE strengthens the ability, always present at the Romaeuropa Festival, to scout and promote Italian art, alongside international excellence. Bearing this in mind, one of the participants will be awarded with a commission for a new work and/or an international promotional project. Artists and their works will be discussed individually and extensively through a special project with theparticipation of students from Rome’s Fine Arts Academy.
As a result of the privilege of having closely experienced all the project stages alongside artists and professional technicians, these students will create an editorial project ad hoc, giving life to these special memories. To view this work visitors will have to wait for the curtains to close on the liveperformances which, in the meantime, deserve to be experienced.
