FRAME captures Antenna (Green), a work realised in 2010 by Ahmed Mater, an artist with a background in physics engaged in exploring the collective memory of Saudi – Arabia and in unveiling its hidden histories. Antenna “stands as a metaphor for youth’s yearning to expand its horizons”. Living in the southern region of Saudi Arabia, if positioned correctly, the TV antenna could receive signals from neighboring countries, whether Yemen from the south or across the Red Sea towards Sudan. A work realised more than 10 years ago is extremely actual now, when everybody worldwide is striving to widening his or her gaze beyond borders that are becoming more and more closed and controlled.
