RE:HUMANISM Art Prize: SPARKS AND FRICTIONS

Re:humanism Cultural Association announces the third edition of the Re:humanism Art Prize “Sparks and Frictions”.

The call, open from Monday, January 16th, 2023, is addressed to professional artists of all ages and nationalities that will be able to participate for free throughout the submission of their projects by 12PM on February 28th, 2023. Winners will be announced by March 2023 on the association’s website.

Sparks and Frictions is the title of the third edition of the Re:Humanism Art Prize, which has been dedicated since 2018 to exploring the relationship between art and artificial intelligence. This edition consolidates the idea of contemporary art as an agent capable of arousing reflections and developing imaginations about the future to come, but also to oppose technocratic regimes in the context of sustainable and inclusive development. With this edition, the program expands throughout the relationship with all forms of technological media and scientific themes that bring into play important reflections on identity, relationships, and possible futures. From quantum technologies to metaverse, from genetics to biohacking, while keeping an eye on the new scenarios of AI, will be evaluated different forms of artistic speculation that, as in every other edition, should not necessarily provide for the direct use of the technologies concerned.

Eleven projects will be selected by a jury composed of the organizers and experts in contemporary art and new digital technologies. In this edition, in addition to the Digitalive Romaeuropa Prize introduced last year, will be awarded a Salvatore Iaconesi’s Special Mention, dedicated to the memory of the artist and researcher Salvatore Iaconesi, and an Emerging Prize dedicated to university students, undergraduates or young people who are starting to pursue an artistic career.

Ten of the selected projects (the Digitalive Romaeuropa Prize will be presented later) will be presented at the end of May 2023 in the WeGil exhibition halls in Rome.

The jury will be composed of: Alfredo Adamo, CEO at Alan Advantage; Andrea Bellini, Director of the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Geneva; Ilaria Bonacossa, Director of the National Museum of Digital Art, Carola Bonfili, finalist in the second edition of the Re:humanism Art Prize, Tiziana Catarci Director of the Computer Engineering, Automatic and Management Department (DIAG) of the University of Rome La Sapienza; Daniela Cotimbo founder and curator of Re:humanism project; Mauro Martino, founder and director of the Visual Artificial Intelligence Lab at IBM Research; Laura Tripaldi,  PhD student in Materials Science and Nanotechnology at the University of Milan Bicocca and curator of the webzine Not of NERO editions.

To the latter are added the commissions for the Special Prize Salvatore Iaconesi composed of the organizers and members of HER: She Loves Data, the artist’s research project, co-founded together with the partner Oriana Persico, and for the Digitalive Romaeuropa Prize composed of the organizers and Federica Patti, curator of the exhibition Digitalive Romaeuropa.
