The finalist and winning works of the Driving Energy 2023 – Contemporary Photography Award, launched by Terna and aimed at promoting the country’s cultural development and new talents, will be on display at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome from September 26 to October 15, 2023.
On September 26th, the opening day of the exhibition, the five winners will be announced and prizes awarded: Senior (aged 31 and over) worth €15,000; Young (up to 30) worth €5,000; Amateurs (open to those who are neither “professionals” nor “authors”) worth €5,000; Academy Mention (dedicated to students enrolled in higher education institutes in the photography sector) worth €2,000; and Terna’s most voted work worth €2,000.
The Award, curated by Marco Delogu, President of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, invites photographers, until June 30, to interpret the theme proposed this year: ‘In Praise of Balance’, a key concept of culture and the backbone of Terna’s mission which, 365 days a year, guarantees, through its dispatching activities, the balance between energy produced and consumed, allowing the electricity system to function at its best to enable the energy transition.
The jury, chaired by Lorenza Bravetta, photography consultant and curator of Photography, Cinema and New Media at La Triennale di Milano, is composed of Maria Alicata, lecturer and curator, Diane Dufour, publisher and curator, Andrea Purgatori, journalist and TV author, Francesco Zanot, curator and lecturer, and Massimiliano Paolucci, Terna’s Director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs and Sustainability. The Driving Energy 2023 Award envisages that the jurors will be assisted not only by the curator, but also by the Presidential Committee, which includes Igor De Biasio and Giuseppina Di Foggia, Terna’s Chairman and CEO respectively.
The 2023 edition has introduced a further novelty in the governance of the competition: the Honour Committee, set up with the intention of creating an ideal handover between the winners of the last edition and the future winner of the new Academy Mention. The Committee, in fact, will identify the winner by evaluating the photographic works submitted by the young students enrolled in the higher education sector and is made up of Paolo Ventura (Senior Prize 2022), Gaia Renis (Young Prize 2022), Mohamed Keita (Special Mention 2022 ‘Contemporary Normality’), Eva Frapiccini (Special Mention 2022 ‘Circularity. Courses and Recurrences’), and Andrea Botto (Mention 2022 Terna’s most voted work).
