VIDEO POST relaunches Marco Barotti’s Apes, a journey by stages of digital evolution, through kinetic sculptures programmed to move according to predictive patterns dictated by data. The movements are accompanied by evolving soundscapes generated by a granular synthesiser driven by the data streams. When the counters reach certain key numbers, the sculptures release sound events generated by an artificial intelligence trained to simulate the calls of real apes. These sound events are modulated in real time by the data rate and disseminated as a quadraphonic audio experience using the body of the APES as a resonance chamber.
