On April 6, 2009, an earthquake devastated the city of L’Aquila, in central Italy. Over 300 residents died, and much of the historic city was reduced to rubble. Seven years later, L’Aquila is the largest construction site in Europe. Off Site Art and ArtBridge aim to help revitalize the city by partnering with local institutions to install art on many of its construction sites. By covering L’Aquila’s ubiquitous scaffolding with bright, inspirational art, ArtBridge and Off Site Art hope to foster a rebirth of culture and new possibilities, while providing tremendous exposure to emerging artists.
A jury panel will select the artists that will respond to the theme “Change!” of the 2016 call for art. Each artist selected will be part of one installation. The images will be printed on vinyl (in extremely large scale) and will cover the scaffolding of the historical center of L’Aquila. Each installation will be on view until the end of the restoration of the building. Artists will be provide photos of their installations.
