FRAME captures a painting evoking the calligraphic qualities of Cy Twombly by Spot, a dog-shaped robot holding paint sticks in its mouth while making controlled movements under the direct guidance of Agnieszka Pilat. Spot is one of two Boston Dynamics robots known to Pilat when they served as models for her paintings and later adopted by apprentices as ‘extensions of her arms’. “All the gestures of my apprentices are inspired by their motor control and also reveal their mechanical limitations” ( Pilat).
