Back in Rome, 20-22 October, 2023 in the evocative spaces of the Gazometro, the Maker Faire Rome – the European Edition, Europe’s largest ‘innovation from below’ event, attended each year by hundreds of exhibitors from Italy, Europe and other parts of the world. Together with them, Italian and international schools, universities, research centres and companies present their projects and their way of making and nurturing innovation.
Robotics, Electronics, Digital Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Domotics, Cybersecurity, Circular Economy, Agritech, STEM Education, and technologies for Health and Sport: these are the topics covered through exhibitions, conferences, workshops, performances, and 4.0 training/information activities.
“The theme of the 2023 opening conference, ‘Innovators like us’ intends to investigate the innovator’s DNA, the ‘discovery’ skills that distinguish the most creative innovators, what makes them different innovators, and how this ‘diversity’ is fundamental for individual and collective progress, and how to cultivate it, also with the help of Artificial Intelligence – which was born to support ours, not replace it.”
These are the words introducing the fair to an audience that grows larger every year. The relationship between creativity and technology has been a much-discussed topic in recent years, always with an underlying conflictuality, even if, in the sea of rhetoric and projects that follow the trend of the moment, there are numerous genuine explorations and experiments where the union restores a dialogue of mutual exchange between disciplines.
It is worth looking out and traversing the stands of this event to catch all that it has to offer, starting with the free opening conference that includes guests from Ken Endo with his prosthetic engineering projects, Mattia Barbarossa, the world’s youngest space entrepreneur and founder of Sidereus Space Dynamics, to HIROSHI ISHIGURO, the father of geminoid robotics, creator of his own robotic twin, introduced by Emanuele Menegatti, UniPD professor and member of I-Rim, the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Machines. The series of lectures will be closed by PIF, Brunori Sars and Elisa Ricci: a journalist, author and director, a popular artist and musician, and an AI expert scientist, director of the Deep Visual Learning Lab in Trento, in a dialogue (and performance) on “Love at the time of Artificial Intelligence “m an original format by Fiorino Iantorno, director of the Santa Chiara Lab (UniSi), who will moderate it and accompany the protagonists in a reflection on relationships that change, thanks also to technology.
