MakerArt is the new project dedicated to the relationship between contemporary art and new technologies at Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition 2019, an event promoted and organised by Rome’s Chamber of Commerce through its Special Agency Innova Camera.
This project will be held at the New Fair of Rome from 18 to 20 October 2019. Maker Faire Rome, now in its seventh edition, is the most important event in Europe dedicated to technological innovation which is available to everyone. For the first time the event includes contemporary art by creating synergetic and integrated networks between makers and international artists selected by Valentino Catricalà, the curator of the section.
MakerArt, imagined as an actual lens on the contemporary within the Fair itself, offers a series of interactive installations which are presented in succession with the event’s itinerary to involve the public and represent the many different ways of interpreting the culture of technological innovation. As well as large installations focused on artificial intelligence, robotics, sound art and video art, the section also includes “pop up art”, i.e. happenings that continuously “displace” viewers as they move along. In addition, for the first time in Italy, an absolutely new element on the national scene and specific to this section of the fair, artists will have the opportunity to collaborate with technology companies, creating a real union between art, science and technological innovation.
The works, based both on proposals of utopian concepts and on feasible projects linked to universal themes such as human life, environmental protection and social relations, aim to stimulate questions and reflections that concern each of us individually and the world around us through artistic creation.
Thirty-one people from all over the world will take part in the event: Artists coming from a selection of countries, including Belgium, Canada, Italy, Russia and the US, have international profiles of the highest level.(from the press release)
