In 2015 artist Matt Collishaw realizes the kinetic sculpture All Things Fall, based on the Massacre of the Innocents by Peter Paul Rubens, a cruel biblical tale of infanticide. From the reproduction in drawing of the characters and their pose in the scene, Collishaw realized, in collaboration with Creative Not (Sebastian Burdon), 3D sculptures staged in a circular structure that in the shape recalls Bramante’s little temple in Rome whereas in the functioning reproduces the mechanism of the zoetrope, the optical device introduced in the Victorian age. By programming the rotation so to spin at 60 rotations per minute while a synchronized LED light flashes 18 times every second, he obtained the animation of scene and the materialization of a carousel of cruelty. All Things Fall poses itself at the borders between techniques and historical time frames, and brings into discussion the spectacularity of violence and its being constantly an actual theme.
