VIDEO POST relaunches documentation of Black Flags, choreography of objects realised by international acclaimed dancer and choreographer William Forsythe. The choreography is orchestrated by two robotics arms that waive their flags with movements that are guided by an algorithm many things, such as control and unpredictability, merge into one in a very subtle play between objects and space. This work, realised at the Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau nel 2014, is part of a series of ‘choreographic objects’, term that Forsythe intends “as a categorizing tool that can help identify sites within which to locate the understanding of potential organization and instigation of action-based knowledge. With this tool, the proliferation of choreographic thinking across wider domain of arts practice can be thrown into relief”. (William Forsythe)
