Artist and composer Pier Alfeo joins the project «Young Italian Artists. Contemporary Art Stories», ongoing space and archive dedicated to key players in the contemporary art world, who are under 35, conceived by Antonello Tolve, and curated with Elena Giulia Rossi.
As fate would have it.
I have always had a special interest in the unpredictability of events, the chaos that inexorably overturns the systems and patterns we know. And it is precisely this chaos that has taken over our lives over the past few months, leading us to question everything we have tried to know about our existence.
Chance resides here, endlessly insatiable, where the Gods reside, in that non-place where the meaning of things ceases to exist.
Thanks to chance, we occasionally remember that we are alive and that, at any moment, everything could escape our control.
What can we do in the face of such uncertainty?
We have no choice but to live, doing so in the hope that this anomaly will return, again and again, no matter whether destructive or constructive; we put our trust in an act, our own, that of reacting.
I got scared.
I felt scared thinking about the future, but what does it matter, the future? If we think this future is built minute by minute?
For a moment.
Some speed up, some slow down, but what we have in common is reaction, what sets us apart is timing.
I have understood, after all, that no one can take control of others’ time. There are clocks, internal rhythms in each of us that must be respected for our own integrity. I have learnt to listen to myself more than I did before, because at any moment all this could dissolve, like a handful of ashes thrown to the wind.
Then I was reborn. Once again.
