The “Driving Energy 2022 Award – Contemporary Photography” exhibition opens at Palazzo delle Esposizioni with the 40 finalists of the competition organised by Terna with the objective of supporting new talent.
The works of the photographers selected from over 1,300 candidates of all ages, from 18 to 85, and coming from all over Italy, outline a profile of great interest, not only for the photography sector but also for the overall Italian cultural panorama. The finalists (https://premiodrivingenergy.terna.it) also include photographers under 30 who represent, with artistic maturity and interpretative finesse, the new languages of photography.
The finalist works will be on show at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, with free access, from 15 to 27 November. On the opening day of the exhibition, the proclamation and awarding of the five winners will also take place: four prizes (Senior, Young and two Special Mentions) will be announced by the Curator, Marco Delogu, and the Jury; a Special Mention will be decreed by the over 5,100 people of Terna, the largest popular jury of a photography prize.
“The selection of the finalist works for the Driving Energy Award was a great opportunity to sound out the quality and variety of contemporary Italian photography, starting from a theme that allowed us to emphasise how energy, in photography, comes from the inner and hidden strength of each author, who uses it in his work as a research tool,” said Marco Delogu, Award Curator. “In selecting the finalists, we favoured photographic works that declined energy in subtle and original ways, and that, with mastery and authority, called into question the current experiments in contemporary art. The choice was also guided by the evaluation of a common refinement and technical expertise, accompanied by the ability to narrate the present and reality with a critical sense”.
The Driving Energy 2022 Award Exhibition will also be visible in the Metaverso, the virtual 3D space in which visitors can move around, share content and interact through their own personalised avatars. The forty finalist works will be assessed by the jury, supported not only by the Curator, but also by the Award’s Presidential Committee, composed of Valentina Bosetti and Stefano Donnarumma, Terna’s Chairman and CEO respectively; the jury is composed of Salvatore Settis, art historian and academic, Lorenza Bravetta, curator of Photography, Cinema, and New Media at La Triennale di Milano, Elisa Medde, editor, curator, and photography writer, Emanuele Trevi, writer and literary critic, Premio Strega 2021, Jasmine Trinca, actress and director, and Massimiliano Paolucci, director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs, and Sustainability at Terna.
