Since 1997, the Department of Visual Design in Manizales, Colombia, makes the International Image Festival, a gathering of digital culture in its 16 editions has established an international network of institutions, researchers and artists every year to exchange experiences and knowledge, so it has positioned itself as an event of international significance and academic reference in design, art, science and technology.
The Festival addresses cutting-edge issues that integrate various disciplines, distributed knowledge and social and environmental problems that invite critical reflection of media and communications in contemporary times. In its latest versions, the Festival has been articulated widely relevant international events.
The central theme of the XVII International Image Festival will be new expeditions, and refers to proposals for collaborative nature, which enable to recognize the territories, contemporanizando scans performed centuries ago by researchers who laid the foundations of science and culture of the XXI century.
New expeditions emerge as a need to observe the changing landscapes, which are affecting the global issues by the increasing poverty and inequality, by changes in the environment. Only a creative and multidisciplinary approach will enable finding routes that allow the generation of a balance between man and nature, for the welfare, dignity, equity and peace.
Visions bottom-up, low tech, emerging groups, conceptual hybridizations, transparent and open data technologies: initiatives developed in open laboratories and in the context of post-digital practices will be favored.
