The Mola di Bari association Officina dell’Arte – APS, winner of the Regional Public Notice Luoghi Comuni promoted by the Regional Agency for Technology and Innovation of the Region of Puglia (ARTI), is launching a two-year management of several spaces in the Angevin-Aragonese Mola di Bari Castle with a major event combining a residence period for artists – Con.divisione (now in its tenth edition) – with the research and co-design workshops XYZ, organised by La Scuola Open Source.
The aim of the initiative is to involve local and temporary communities and encourage interaction. By participating in the activities, these communities will help turn the Angevin Castle into a driving force for artistic research and cultural education in the area through a participatory, site-specific and interdisciplinary approach.
The 60 participants selected during the XYZ workshops will be part of 3 working groups managed by lecturers and tutors of a very high level, who will coordinate the design of the identity, spaces and governance of this new centre for cultural production:
X / COMMUNICATION
Professors: Mauro Bubbico, Tommaso Guariento, Arianna Smaron
→ naming and communication strategy
→visual identity system
Y / INSTRUMENTS
Professors: None Collective, Ivan Iosca
→ modular design system
→ interactive light installation
Z / PROCESSES
Professors: Nicola Capone, Maria Francesca De Tullio, Benedetta Marotti
→ regulation and community empowerment
→ economic plan and analysis of impact
The tenth edition of Con.divisione will take place at the same time as the XYZ activities. The artists in residence will work alongside the workshop participants and teachers in a fluid and trans-disciplinary context, also interacting with experimental didactic “incursions”, preparatory to and transversal with the XYZ workshops.
The collective co-design will end on 9 September with a final presentation focused on the output of the XYZ workshops together with the inauguration of the customary exhibition-event in the Castle, the result of the Con.divisione artistic residency. This will be open to the public until 12 September, in conjunction with the Festival of Mola di Bari’s Patron Saint.
With this first event, Officina dell’Arte aims to launch a project that will connect local tradition with the contemporary, transforming the Castle into an organised, animated space for didactic and research activities, shows, exhibitions, events and citizens’ forums, which can all be enjoyed and accessed by the community of Mola di Bari, which will be able to interact with both the national and international cultural scene.
