It is well known that replication is difficult. But, anyway, what’s the point of replicating something? Replication requires blind faith in what one has been, suggesting immobility, and this does not appear to be the intention of None who, with the new formula for Symposium, are trying to explore all the opportunities for their creatures’ growth and evolution. If the Symposium Utopia Reale (Real Utopia) was a “totalising” event, the new form of Symposium does not replicate the immediate past but seems to look at all previous stages with a view to collect the best experiences: the creative workshops, the discussions, the need to create something real, with more events over the space of time, the interconnections and the wonder, without forgetting to make everything accessible to all, which means the public.
These are the elements that point towards Symposium Jam Session. In an era that, on the one hand, is getting more and more accustomed to the extension of narratives involving the imaginary (the proliferation of TV series) and, on the other hand, fragments the time needed for knowledge (infodemia) None seem to respond with calm and wisdom: let’s go back to discussing current issues through a coming together of bodies and minds to really create something in a set time that recognises the word closure (in all its different meanings). These are only highly personal reflections which come to mind after visiting the Symposium website (http://simpos.io/), describing the curiosity and desire to be present, to participate and do things together.
The Jam Sessions are 48-hour full-immersion events where new forms of collective self-learning van be tested to create new visual, sound and textual content. Each workshop is developed around a theme in 48 intensive hours (one Friday and Saturday of each month from March to June) in the NONE collective studio in Rome.”
The themes carefully listed on the site (RIFUGI DOPO L’APOCALISSE, SOGNO E SON DESTO, BOREDOM (HO DETTO NOIA), SI SIAMO UN MITO) convey the need for further study.
The prerequisites for a new learning experience are all there. All that needs to be done is to visit the site and try to have enough motivation to sign up. As None suggest, “To participate you have to have a red hot keyboard!”
Simposio
SIMPOSIO is a project-event organised by NONE, a young Italian collective of architects interested in researching the boundaries of identity, the relationship between man and machine, cinema and art, and all the changes in history and technology shaping the relationship which catch their attention. After a first edition with encounters in None’s studio, and a true simposium organized at the ENI Village in Borca di Cadore (July 4-7, 2019), it is now at its third edition that shapes in the format of jam sessions.
