Biennale delle immagini in movimento a Ginevra

Una Biennale interamente dedicata all’immagine in movimento è in corso presso il Centre d’Art Contemporain. La Biennale è stata fondata da Silvie and Chérif Defraoui in 1985 inizialmente nominato come «International Video Week», all’epoca uno dei primi eventi del genere in Europa che nell’arco del ventennio successivo ha presentato lavori di artisti come Bill Viola, Gary Hill, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Robert Filliou, Chris Marker, Guy Debord, Vito Acconci, Bruce Nauman, Chantal Akerman, Rebecca Horn, Andy Warhol, Philippe Garrel, Nam June Paik, Laurie Anderson, Artavazd Pelechian, Harun Farocki, Matt Mullican, Anri Sala and the Straub/Huillet duo. In occasione dell’edizione 2014 sono stati commissionati e prodotti ventidue nuovi lavori con le direttive di una prestigiosa commissione internazionale: Andrea Bellini (Direttore del Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève), Hans Ulrich Obrist (curatore e co-direttore della Serpentine Gallery di Lonara) e Yann Chateigné (Head of the Department of Visual Arts at the HEAD – Geneva).

Una evento di avanguardia assoluta negli anni in cui è nato è ora entrato a far parte di un genere relativamente «classico» mantenendo però un taglio sempre moderno, con una visione transdiplinare includendo artisti visive, danza e performance, attento a sostenere gli artisti con nuove produzioni e a raggiungere un pubblico vasto attraverso canali di diffusione diversi, estendendo la programmazione a varie realtà locali e internazionali.
