«Premio Terna 04. «In and out of Place. No networking. The territory for Art», 2012

curated by Cristiana Collu, Éric de Chassey, Gabriele Francesco Sassone;  Terawatt category curated by Gianluca Marziani

The theme of this edition was an invitation to reflect on the concept of ‘Territory’ and ‘Territoriality’, intended as a relationship with spaces and physical places, but also as an introspective dimension, a sense of belonging, of inclusion or exclusion, of an opening in relations with others, or of limitations. The territory becomes a place that hosts creativity and in turn becomes itself a creativity driver. ‘No networking’ was the invitation to explore new structures and forms of relations with others and with the territory, structures that are not pre-determined. The network, technically called the “grid”, without which even Terna would not exist and whose absence allows Terna to build connections: a clear reference therefore, as always for the titles of the Prizes, to the transmission of electricity. The artist is free to build ‘the territory for art’ and/or imagine ‘art for the territory’. The Prize, which in previous editions had gathered more than 9,000 participating artists from all over Italy and abroad, in 2012 had many novelties: three new curators, activities on the territory with a site-specific project on pylons, opening of the call also to installations, a prize for the youngest artist among under-23 talents, the connection with Moscow for the closing of the Year of Italian Culture in Russia and a partnership with the music of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. The website, on this occasion, became a true working tool providing a 3D exhibition gallery to be set up, even on a weekly basis, with new artworks and information, including the costs for their artworks.

Jury chaired by Luigi Roth and Flavio Cattaneo and composed of: Marzia Corraini, Antoine de Galbert, Alda Fendi, Kamel Mennour, Camilla Nesbitt, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Olga Sbiblova. Alessandro Villari.
